Speaking to the Times of India, Balwinder Singh Sandhu said that Rahul Dravid’s excellence as a player and a coach stands out and he is the best choice possible to become the next Team India coach. He said, “Dravid has spent 2-3 years with India A team and at NCA (National Cricket Academy). Now, he will (in all likelihood) coach most of those whom he has seen in the last few years. He is the best choice and the perfect person to coach the side.”
Balwinder Sandhu added that the players have come a long way under Dravid, with the U-19 and A teams showing a great deal of maturity in their way of playing and mannerisms. He said, “Dravid, as a coach, has also grown with them. He knows the nitty-gritty of every junior and that is a big advantage for India and him as well. Getting Paras Mhambrey on board as a bowling coach (in all likelihood) is also a big plus.”

Rahul Dravid had been initially reluctant to take over the job, but after a talk with Sourav Ganguly and jay Shah, agreed to take over the role. A source had earlier told InsideSport, “Jay and Sourav spoke to him and it was about Dravid being convinced because it does need a lot of time as you need to be on the go constantly. But things went well and Dravid has always kept the interest of the Indian cricket on the top so it made things easier as the team would do well to have someone like him guiding the boys.”
