Team India Coach: Rahul Dravid applies for Head coach’s role – Ending all speculations, former India captain and NCA director Rahul Dravid has applied for the head coach’s role on the deadline day. Once he goes through the CAC and all the formalities, he will take over from Ravi Shastri, whose tenure ends after T20 World Cup.

InsideSport first reported that Rahul Dravid was to take charge of the New Zealand series. BCCI top brass including President Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah requested Rahul Dravid to take over, offering a salary of Rs 10 crore. VVS Laxman is still in the fray to take over as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). While he had rejected the role earlier, Sourav Ganguly and the BCCI top brass are still hopeful of getting Laxman’s service.

“Yes, Dravid has applied for the position of Team India head coach and Laxman is definitely in the race to take over as NCA head. Talks are on and we have to see how it goes,” a BCCI source told ANI.

“Dravid has agreed and it cannot get better. The other positions will now be looked into while Vikram stays as the batting coach. The Indian team is in a state of transition with youngsters coming in and they have all worked with Dravid and it will be all the more easier for Indian cricket to continue on its path to becoming world-beaters on the pitch,” source said.

Meanwhile, former India wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra has applied for the position of fielding coach of the Indian Cricket team. The 39-year-old Faridabad born Ratra has played six Tests and 12 ODIs and 99 first class matches.

Ratra, who has a varied coaching experience, is currently the head coach of Assam and is in the north Eastern state for the team’s camp ahead of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will start on November 4.

In the IPL, he has worked with Delhi Capitals and in the past also has worked with the Indian women’s team.

Ratra is also a regular at the National Cricket Academy and has also worked with India wicketkeepers like Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant.

The BCCI has invited applications for various coaching positions for the Indian team.
