IPL 2023: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni), the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), lauded the team’s culture when questioned about their formula for success after the team defeated Delhi Capitals by 77 runs on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to secure their position in the Indian Premier League 2023 Playoffs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (79 off 50) and Devon Conway (87 off 52) of CSK opened the scoring with a 141-run stand, lighting the stage on fire. The final push was then given by significant cameos from Shivam Dube (22 off 9) and Ravindra Jadeja (20* off 7) as CSK recorded a massive 223/3.
Despite a valiant effort by David Warner, who fought the lone battle with a superb knock of 86(58), CSK were able to restrict DC to 146/9 thanks to a joint bowling effort led by Deepak Chahar, who then shone with the ball with a fantastic spell of 3/22.
CSK is now guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and finished in the top two. In Qualifier 1 at Chepauk, Chennai will take on the Gujarat Titans.

When Dhoni was questioned about what made the squad successful season after season, he mentioned the sacrifices the players had to make for the good of the group.
“There’s no recipe (for success). You try to pick the best players and give them the best slot where they have the most chances of performing. You groom them in areas where they are not strong. Some players may have to make sacrifices in their slot for the sake of the team. Have to say that the team management has always backed us. But the players are always important,” Dhoni said.
Former India skipper elobrated further: “I think we need to figure out and pick players who are team first. Ones that are not bothered about individual performances and perform their best at knockout stages. It is difficult to judge from the outside, we try and adjust to the players and environment as well. Even if the player can come 10 percent towards us (in terms of adjusting), we can adjust 50 percent to fit them better into the team.”
The bowlers Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana were also lauded by Dhoni.
For the place in IPL 2023 FINAL, CSK will face GT on Tuesday at Chepauk.
