Tamil Nadu thrashes Saurashtra to enter Ranji Trophy semifinals after 7 years

All-rounder Sai Kishore led from the front as he his contributions from both and bat powered Tamil Nadu to Ranji Trophy semi-final for first time since 2016-17 season.

Tamil Nadu produced a dominant performance to beat favourites Saurashtra by an innings and 33 runs in the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 at Coimbatore on Sunday.

The hosts bowled out the defending champions for 122 in their second innings, after taking a 155-run lead in the first innings.

The star of the match was Tamil Nadu’s captain and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore, who claimed nine wickets in the match, including four in the second innings. He also scored a valuable 60 runs in the first innings, helping his team post 338 in reply to Saurashtra’s 183.

Sai Kishore was well supported by seamer Sandeep Warrier and spinner Ajith Ram, who took five wickets each in the match.

Baba Indrajith and Boopathi Kumar also contributed with the bat in Tamil Nadu’s first innings, scoring 80 and 65, respectively.

Notably, Tamil Nadu reached the semi-final for the first time since the 2016/17 season, and will face the winner of the Mumbai vs Baroda quarter-final.

If Mumbai wins their quarter-final clash, Tamil Nadu will have to travel to Mumbai for the semi-final. If Baroda wins, Tamil Nadu will host them in Coimbatore.
