The West Indies Cricket Team missed out on the ICC Champions Trophy. The rules were fairly simple, the top 8 team of the ODI World Cup 2023 got their chance. The Caribbean side on the other hand, failed to make it to the ODI World Cup in 2023. Now, West Indian legend, Sir Vivian Richards claims that his side needs to take a leaf out of Afghanistan’s book to make their comeback in International cricket.
The West Indian great was extremely annoyed and hurt after his side failed to make it to the tournament. Sri Lanka and West Indies are the two former ODI World Cup champs who couldn’t make it to the competition.
Learn from Afghanistan
“I’m just hoping that my West Indies team can take a leaf out of these guys’ book, because there is a passion and energy that the Afghanis have brought to the game,” Richards told media on Sunday.
“They haven’t been in the cricket world for so long as maybe some other teams around the world, but just their fighting spirit. To me, the ability to learn as the years go by, that would have given them the experience that’s needed in order for them to be where they’re at,” he added.
Vivian Richards went on to explain that the Afghanistan Team is new at international cricket. He further lauded their fighting spirit, claiming this will help them in getting huge experience.

“When you can see Afghanistan in the Champions League, and the West Indies not, it means that Afghanistan is doing something right,” he said.
Richards further claimed that West Indies will need efforts from everyone to improve their game style and be a part of these major ICC events. He claimed that not just the players will be enough. He wants the best from every individual of the board to be their best so that the Caribbean side can once again reclaim their lost glory.
“In order for us to get ourselves back where we once were, it is going to take maybe not just the players, but individuals from the board, people who are in responsible positions,” he said.
“For them to believe that this is not just the players, but it takes people from the board to identify the things that may be missing, (as to) why we are not there.” “I feel very annoyed with the fact that the West Indies team, with such (a) huge legacy, is not in the Champions Trophy and it hurts. It makes me feel very, very sad, because we are much better than that,” he said.
