Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly shed light on the selection of India’s T20 World Cup squad, specifically addressing the omission of promising batter Rinku Singh.
Focus on spin for Caribbean pitches
Sourav Ganguly reassured Rinku Singh, stating his exclusion wasn’t a reflection of his talent. Instead, it was a strategic call by the team management to prioritize spin bowling. “It’s West Indies. The wickets may be slow and assist spin,” Ganguly explained, suggesting the team opted for “an extra spinner” for the Caribbean pitches.
Rinku Singh time will come
Rinku Singh, known for his explosive batting and finishing skills, might have missed out due to this tactical preference. However, Sourav Ganguly offered encouragement: “Maybe because of that Rinku didn’t get an opportunity but it’s just the beginning for Rinku.”
India favored alongside Australia
Looking ahead to the tournament, Sourav Ganguly predicted India and Australia to dominate, similar to their performances in the 50-over World Cup last year. India’s journey begins on June 5th against Ireland in the USA, before moving to the Caribbean for the Super Eight stage.
