T20s no longer young person’s sport: Ashwin backs ‘experience’ to tackle lack of game awareness

Ashwin claims that nothing can beat experience and that it would play a crucial role in tackling the challenge going forward

India cricket team spinner and Dindigul Dragons skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed that T20s are no longer a young person’s game as it was called in the initial stages. The veteran spinner, who is currently participating in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), stressed on why it was important to have experienced players in the side.

‘Nothing can beat experience’: Ashwin

In a video uploaded by TNPL on social media platform X, Ashwin explains that the one main challenge in T20s in the future is going to be the lack of game awareness. He claims that nothing can beat experience and that it would play a crucial role in tackling the challenge going forward. Ashwin also gave a shoutout to some of his teammates in the Dindgul Dragons, going on to say that they were talented and were going to go places in the future,

Initially, they said T20 is a young person’s sport. But as I have played more and more cricket, I don’t think anything can beat experience. For today and in the future, one of the biggest challenges is going to be lack of game awareness,” Ashwin said.

Ashwin’s Dragons are one step away from securing a spot in the finals of TNPL 2024. The side will take on IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the Qualifier 2 on Friday. The team managed to make it to the playoffs with a fourth-placed finish in the group stage. They then beat Chepauk Super Gillies in the Eliminator to make their way to the Qualifier 2.
