T20 World Cup: Wriddhiman Saha joins R Ashwin in denying dressing room rifts says “I’ve never felt it’s difficult to approach Virat”

Wriddhiman Saha backs Virat Kohli’s captaincy: Speaking to the Telegraph, India’s Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha said he has no complaints regarding Virat Kohli’s captaincy and believes that there shouldn’t be any concerns regarding the 32-year-old’s attitude and approach.

With Kohli set to relinquish captaincy in the T20 format after the T20 World Cup, his relationship with fellow Indian players has been under the scanner.

However, Saha gave a glowing commendation saying that the Indian captain was one of the most approachable players. The Bengal star who has been with the Indian team over the last decade said,

“Personally, I haven’t had any problem in expressing myself before Virat or for that matter, Ajinkya (Rahane, when he led India in three Tests Down Under last season). Now each one of them is different. There are some people who listen to others’ opinions, while there are others who do as per their own wishes. We also come across some who prefer to speak to a couple of other individuals before taking a call. So everyone cannot be the same.”

Wriddhiman Saha believes that had there been any serious concerns, players would not have been comfortable off-field space with Virat Kohli, who often joins in during gaming sessions.

The keeper added, “See, the very aspect of approach varies from one individual to another. I’ve never felt it’s difficult to approach Virat.”

Saha said, “When a person voluntarily goes to another individual’s room and joins in for a session of PlayStation, how can he be difficult to approach? And then he (Virat) calls up another teammate and asks that guy to join as well. That’s possible only if one’s approachable. So if any player, or for that matter if some of the juniors are hesitant in approaching him, then I think it’s their problem. They need to find out why they are being hesitant.”

Earlier, rumours of certain senior Indian players being unhappy with his leadership went afloat after Virat Kohli quit captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup. Ravichandran Ashwin was named as one of the seniors to have made complaints to the BCCI, and the off-spinner scathingly hit back at the rumours.

“I am searching for the handle ‘fake news’, it used to be super fun for gossip. Oh Yaaaa!! Thank you guys. Found them: I just heard they renamed themselves and are now called IANS and some others take quotes from them too. Super fun,” Ravichandran Ashwin wrote in an Instagram story.
