T20 World Cup LIVEIndia Exit will spell loses for Star Sports: India is staring at unexpected & unceremonious World Cup exit. As the billion hearts are set to break, broadcaster Star Sports will incur huge loses if India exits the tournament before the Semifinals stage. According to industry experts, Star can easily lose 80-100 Cr if India exits the tournament prematurely.

T20 World Cup: Can Virat Kohli-led Team India still qualify for…

“All deals for our clients are performance based. If India exits the tournament or we see faill in ratings, our commitmment to the broadcaster also comes down. It’s hard to give any figure – but Star can lose 80-100 Cr revenues if India doesn’t make it to the Last 4”, said one of the leading media-buyer in the country.

It’s worth noting that though Star Sports has always been tight-lipped about their revenue targets, industry is expecting 1200 Cr revenues from advertising for the broadcaster & the LIVE streaming partner Disney+ Hotstar.

  • Disney+ Hotstar – 275 to 300 Cr worth advertising booked
  • Star Sports Network – 900 Cr worth deals signed with sponsors.

Star Sports had signed 16 sponsors & Hotstar has 10 partners on board. Deals with all these sponsors & partners will have to be adjusted if Virat Kohli’s team doesn’t progress further.

Dream 11, Byju’s, Phonepe, Thumps, Vimal, Havells, JioMart, netmeds.com are co-presenting sponsors, and Akash, Skoda, Whitehatjr, Great Learning, CoinDCX, and Trends and few others are roped in as associate on-air sponsors of the event

ICC Sponsors also feel the heat: Though ICC doesn’t have any performance centric clause on any of their deal but it’s clear with India set for a premature exit – most of the ICC partners will also fail to get their ROI’s on the investments with ICC.

ICC has signed 15 partners for the T20 World Cup– Oppo, MRF Tyres, Booking.com, Byju’s, PostPe, Emirates, MoneyGram, Bira, Star Sports, Coca Cola, Upstox, Nissan, Royal Stag, Dream11 and Jacob’s Creek.

“Yes we will struggle to justify our investments if India exits. Let’s hope for the best, India can still make it, fingers crossed”, said marketing head for one of the company who has partnered with ICC for the World Cup & other events.

T20 World Cup LIVE – How India still has a outside chance to make it to Last-4?

First thing First – India need to win all 3 remaining matches: India has matches against Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland & they need to win all 3 handsomely to harbor any hope of making it to the Last 4.

Even win in these 3 games will not guarantee India a place in the last 4. India would hope that New Zealand lose to Afghanistan & than India somehow achieves better NRR than others.

Net Run Rate (NRR) factor-

  • Team India have a net run rate of -1.609.
  • India will be not only looking for wins but also big margin victories against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in their remaining group stage matches.
  • Virat Kohli & Co will be hoping that Afghanistan beat New Zealand to keep them in the semifinals race (highly unlikely). If the qualifiers Namibia and Scotland pull off an upset against New Zealand, it could also benefit the Men in Blue.
  • Kohli & Co teeter on the edge and cannot make it to the semifinals by relying on their own performance.
