On Saturday, the Indian team under Rohit Sharma was just too good against Bangladesh in the practice match of the T20 World Cup 2024, in New York. In the inconsequential match, Rohit Sharma’s men beat hapless Bangladesh by 60 runs, after putting 182/5 on the board. And there were a lot of positives for the winners undoubtedly.
More importantly, almost all the players in the squad got some valuable game time on the newly prepared drop-in pitch at the Nassau County International Stadium, the venue for India’s first three matches in the T20 World cup.
No Virat Kohli, Yuzvendra Chahal & Yashasvi Jaiswal Ignored
While it is amply clear that Virat Kohli will be a part of the playing XI in all the matches, he missed out on the warm up fixture vs Bangladesh, as he had arrived to the USA, just a day prior. So, his absence was not concerning at all. But what was rather alarming, was the fact that out of rest of the 14 players, 12 got a chance to perform.

The ones who did not, were leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, and opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. This just goes on to show that the duo are not being considered a part of the playing XI for now. The spin duties could be led by Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja only, and then if needed Axar Patel. Chahal is fourth spinner in the pecking order.
Could Virat Kohli Open in T20 World Cup?
On the other hand, Jaiswal not getting a chance to bat at all might be a signal that India might go with Virat Kohli as the opener. On Saturday, Sanju Samson opened the innings, and failed. But for the southpaw to not get a chance clearly indicates, that the team management is giving preference to Virat’s form.
