T20 World Cup Update – Jason Holder West Indies Team: The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today announced that allrounder Jason Holder has been named as the replacement for left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy in the 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

McCoy was ruled out of the ICC tournament due to a right shin injury. He played the opening match against England last Saturday but missed the second match against South Africa on Tuesday.

The change to the West Indies squad has been approved by the ICC Tournament’s Technical Committee. Holder, who was originally named as a traveling reserve, now joins the official squad and is available for selection for the third Super 12 match against Bangladesh at the Sharjah Stadium on Friday.

T20 World Cup Update: Injured Obed McCoy out, reserve Jason Holder joins the West Indies squad

T20 World Cup Update – Jason Holder West Indies Team: “The defending T20 World champions asked to replace Obed McCoy in their squad for the remainder of the tournament after the bowler was diagnosed with an injury to his right leg.” according to ICC release

ICC Event Technical Committee made up of Chris Tetley (Head of Events, Chair), Clive Hitchcock (ICC Senior Cricket Operations Manager), Rahul Dravid and Dhiraj Malhotra (BCCI Representatives), Simon Doull and Ian Bishop (Independent Members) approved the change on Wednesday 27 October, allowing Jason Holder to join the 15.

“Jason Holder has been in the UAE for a while now and will fit quite well into the team unit,” Roger Harper, CWI’s lead men’s selector said. “He is an experienced and knowledgeable cricketer who we know will be eager and excited to grab the opportunity.

“McCoy did really well in the T20Is earlier this year and adapted well in the opening match against England. He was a key member of the bowling unit and it’s unfortunate he won’t be able to take any further part in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field ready to go again in the near future.”

The West Indies have lost both of their opening matches in Group 1 to leave them needing results to go their way if they are to make it into the semi-finals and defend their T20 World Cup title next month.

And they will have to play their remaining three Super 12 fixtures without McCoy, after the 24-year-old picked up an injury in the loss to England.
