Shahid Afridi was disappointed with the performance of his ‘son in law’ of Shaheen Afridi during the T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday. Australia needed 20 runs to win the semi-final in Dubai yesterday when Shaheen Afridi was called to bowl. However, Hasan Ali dropped a sitter which signalled the death knell for the Men in Green, with Wade cashing in, smashing three sixes to finish off the job.
In his statement, Shahid Afridi said that if Hassan Ali had missed Matthew Wade’s catch, the situation still didn’t allow Shaheen Afridi to lose hope.”Missing a catch didn’t mean [Shaheen] could allow the batter to hit three sixes off three balls,” Afridi said.
Had Wade’s catch been taken, it would certainly have been a game-changing moment, with a new batter coming in during a crunch situation. However, to Australia’s luck, Wade survived that chance and made the most of it with three consecutive sixes to set up a T20 World Cup final against New Zealand.
T20 World Cup: Shahid Afridi unhappy with ‘son in law’ Shaheen Afridi’s performance in Semifinals, ‘can’t allow batter to hit 3 successive 6’s’
Earlier this year, former cricket team captain Shahid Khan Afridi has confirmed that his eldest daughter will tie the knot with Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi in the future. In a recent interview with a private channel, Shahid was asked about the engagement of his daughter with star pacer Shaheen, to which he replied that if God’s willing, the young bowler will be his son-in-law in the future.
Shaheen’s father Ayaz Khan had earlier spoken to the media and confirmed that both families have longstanding relations and that Shahid’s family has agreed to the proposal. However, nothing on the same has been made official yet.
