T20 World Cup: Matthew Wade cruelly denies Adam Zampa a hat-trick, drops regulation catch behind the stumps
Australia vs Bangladesh: Adam Zampa may have picked up a five-wicket haul in Australia’s T20 World Cup game against Bangladesh, but the leg-spinner was also denied the chance to pick up a hat-trick after wicketkeeper Matthew Wade dropped a relatively routine catch. Zampa had picked up the wickets off Shamim Hossain and Mahedi Hasan off the final two deliveries of his third over before inducing an edge from Taskin Ahmed but Wade was unable to cling on to the chance, leaving Zampa in disbelief.

The pair then had an exchange which was picked up by the stump mic, with Zampa saying: “That was my hat-trick ball.” Matthew Wade responded, “Yeah, I tried to catch it.” Adam Zampa later added two more wickets in the over, getting Mustafizur Rahman caught on the boundary by Steve Smith and Shoriful Islam caught at slip by Aaron Finch.

Australia vs Bangladesh: Had Zampa taken the hat-trick, he would have been the second Australian bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cups, after Brett Lee did so in the 2007 edition of the tournament. Zampa’s figures were the best by an Australian in T20 World Cups and is only the second Australian to pick up a five-wicket haul in the tournament.
