T20 World Cup: India’s strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai believes opens up on preparations at Perth before WC, says ‘goal in Perth is get some time in these pitches’
Having a feel of the Australian conditions is paramount for India. That is one of the main reasons for the Indian players having arrived quite early for the competition. More importantly, Desai said that the goal for the next few days will be to get some time in Perth pitches. The 22-yard surface is one of the fastest in the world.

“The goal in Perth is get some time in these pitches as well to break the monotony of bilateral series playing in India. It is a good time to unwind as well and build on the specific skillset that is required for cricket in Australia. That is the overall plan leading into the WC, especially in the eight days from now,” Desai said in BCCI video.
The ICC event is set to take place officially from October 16, but India will be playing their first match on October 23 only. The Men in Blue will be involved in four practice matches, starting October 10. Overall, they will play Western Australia twice, followed by New Zealand and Australia.
These matches will help the management know where every player of the team stands. It is even important for some of the players, who have not played in Australia.
“The 8-10 days is going to be crucial for Team India in the lead up to the World Cup. We are thankful to the BCCI and the team management for these days, because we always feel there is a rust before big tournaments as we play so much of cricket. In these eight days, we will build ourselves both physically and skill wise ahead of the first game of the World Cup,” Desai added.
