T20 World Cup: 5 players selectors regret not picking – BCCI and selectors have come under fire for not picking some established names of T20 cricket for the T20 World Cup. While selectors justified their selection and said the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar were considered due to their current form, they have flopped badly in IPL 2021 and the ones who were left out like Yuzvendra Chahal, Shreyas Iyer, Avesh Khan have shined in Phase 2. That raises the question, will selectors regret not picking the established names?

Amongst the left-outs, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shreyas Iyer are the two names who have hit back at selectors with fantastic performances in the IPL 2021 Phase 2. Chahal is amongst wickets for RCB while Iyer has led DC to three wins playing two knocks of 40+. Then there is Avesh Khan, who despite doing well in IPL 2021 Phase 1 was not even considered for T20 World Cup and didn’t get a place amongst reserve players.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Rahul Chahar besides Hardik Pandya have disappointed big time in UAE. InsideSport takes a look at 5 players whom selectors will regret not picking.

Shreyas Iyer (DC): A shoulder injury and subsequent surgery kept the young DC batsman out of IPL 2021 Phase 1. He was only kept as a standby player for the T20 World Cup. But he made a fantastic comeback to the team, slamming two back to back 40+ scores to lead DC to victory. Against Mumbai Indians, he played an important knock of 33 off 33 to lead DC to win on a difficult pitch. His competitor, Ishan Kishan on the other hand has been dropped by Mumbai Indians as he has undergone a poor run of form, scoring 11, 14 and 9.

Yuzvendra Chahal (RCB): After a poor England series at home and IPL 2021 Phase 1, the experienced spinner returned to form in Sri Lanka. However, he was dropped from the T20 World Cup squad. Since then, Chahal has hit back at selectors by taking 10 wickets in five matches and has been economical. Rahul Chahar, the man who replaced him, has had a torrid run of form and has been dropped to the bench by MI. With just a week left in finalising the squad, selectors must be regretting the decision to pick him.

Avesh Khan (DC): Even though selectors spoke about the current form that came into considering the squad, Avesh Khan’s fantastic form in IPL 2021 was not even discussed. He was although taken to England as a standby player but he returned with an injury. But the DC pacer has been amongst wickets, taking 7 wickets and has been economical to show what selectors missed out on. He has been on the selectors’ radar but the Shami-Bumrah-Bhuvneshwar trio will keep him out longer.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK): The CSK opener has had another great IPL season, scoring over 500 runs this time. But with a tightly-knit top order, it was difficult to consider Ruturaj Gaikwad. But with the kind of form he is in, selectors will be regretting not being able to choose him.
