T20 World Cup: The Indian team for the T20 World Cup in Australia was announced recently. There were no major surprises as the selectors did not take any risky calls. However, former selector Dilip Vengsarkar is not too happy with some of the players not in the squad. He wanted to see the likes of Umran Malik, Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill to be part of Rohit Sharma’s squad. Follow ICC T20 World Cup live updates with InsideSport.IN
Interestingly, Shami is included in the stand bys for the T20 World. Mailk and Gill are nowhere in the picture.
Vengsarkar wanted to see the trio in the squad based on their performance in the IPL.
“I would have picked Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik and Shubman Gill for the T20 World Cup. Would have given them a long run in T20Is because they all had a brilliant IPL season,” Vengsarkar told Indian Express.
Their run in the Indian Premier League was brilliant. Malik proved to be one of the best fast bowlers with his express pace. He scalped eight wickets. Shubman Gill delivered with the bat, scoring 483 runs. Shami scalped 20 wickets in the season.
But it is important to note that a good show in the IPL does not necessarily mean a spot in the Indian team. The competition in the Indian team is massive and the trio have not been a regular in the Indian squad as well.
India is clearly missing Mohammed Shami. You cannot depend on only two regular pacers. This is definitely not the side that can win us the #T20WorldCup2022! Lots to think about for the selectors and coach!

Shami has been added in the standby list due to the failure of the pacers in the Asia Cup, which was without Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. If any of the pacers get injured, Shami could well make it to India’s 15-member squad in Australia.
When it comes to Umran and Gill, they are both young guns. They are considered to be the future of India cricket, and will get their time in due course.
