But against Babar Azam & Co, Team India will have to be careful as Pakistan have had the best winning percentage in the shortest format over the last five years since the WC 2016. The only better team in the last five years is Afghanistan with an 81% winning ratio but they have played only 36 matches compared to Pakistan’s 71.

Pakistan might have failed to qualify for the semifinals in WC 2016. But since then, they have had a great run. Barring the England series, Babar Azam & Co won four out of five series including against South Africa and West Indies. The likes of Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam and Hasan Ali shined.

Afghanistan – 36 matches – 29 won – 6 lost | 1 Tied | Winning percentage – 81%

The powerhouse of T20 bowling, Afghanistan have had the best run. Even though they have mostly played against smaller nations, their series win against World Champion West Indies has been the highlight. Since T20 World Cup 2016, Afghanistan have played 36 matches, winning 29 of them, the best record amongst all.

Pakistan – 71 matches – 46 won – 20 lost | 0 Tied | 5 No result | Winning percentage – 65%

While Afghanistan may take the crown of best winning percentage, amongst the top cricket playing nations, Pakistan are the team to beat. They have won 46 matches out of 71 with a winning percentage of 65, the best amongst the teams with 50+ matches. Furthermore, they have won the last 10 matches in the UAE and that gives Babar Azam & Co an edge.

India – 72 matches – 45 won – 22 lost | 2 -tied | 3 no result | Winning percentage – 62.5%

Even though Virat Kohli-led India’s home record has been impeccable, they have lost series abroad. But their wins against New Zealand and Australia at their own backyards have been the highlights. In fact, before the Sri Lanka series, India went on to win seven T20I series on the trot. Virat Kohli & Co have maintained a winning percentage of 62.5% with 45 wins and 22 losses in 72 matches, the second-best after Pakistan.

England – 50 matches – 29 won – 19 lost | 1 tied & 1 No result | Winning percentage – 58%

Despite possessing perhaps the best T20 side at present, England have not been able to establish their dominance in T20Is. The likes of Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler have established themselves as the prized assets of T20s while Ben Stokes has been the best-allrounder in the last five years. But a winning percentage of just 58% doesn’t go well. In 50 matches, they have won 29 and lost 19.

South Africa – 51 matches – 27 won – 23 lost | 1 Tied | Winning percentage – 53%

The team in transition with AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Dale Steyn out of national setup, South Africa have had hits and misses. But the likes of Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada are the men to watch out for and they will look to improve on their 53% winning percentage.

Australia – 58 matches – 29 won – 27 lost | 2 No result | Winning percentage – 50%

Once the best side in Test and ODIs, Australia have always struggled in T20Is even though their cricketers have remained hot properties in T20 leagues including IPL across the world. With 29 wins and 27 losses, they have a winning percentage of just 50% and that is something Aaron Finch will like to improve on.

New Zealand to travel with 20-member squad to T20 World Cup in India

New Zealand – 57 matches – 27 won – 25 lost | 3 Tied | 2 No result | Winning percentage – 47%

Kane Williamson & Co too have gone through a transition after Brendon McCullum had retired after 2016 WC. While they have had terrific T20 players, their performance in the T20Is hasn’t been great and that shows in their results. With 27 wins in 57 matches with a winning percentage of 47%, they are still trying to find a place amongst T20 elites.

Bangladesh – 50 matches – 21 won – 29 lost| Winning percentage – 42%

Like the other two formats, Bangladesh have had hits and misses. They haven’t performed to best of their potential and even though they have great home records, they have struggled abroad. With just a 42% winning percentage, they find themselves fighting for survival in the first round of T20 World Cup 2021.

West Indies – 67 matches – 24 won – 36 lost | 7 no result | Winning percentage – 36%

The defending World Champions have hit a slump. The T20 superstars have struggled with their forms and age and the new bunch of cricketers are yet to thrive. With the likes of Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer showing promise, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle and DJ Bravo will hope to pass on the baton and mark the beginning of a new era after T20 World Cup 2021. With just 36% winning percentage in 67 matches, they must turn things around.

Sri Lanka – 56 matches – 16 won – 38 lost | 1 Tied | 1 No result | Winning percentage – 29%

The conflict with the board, retirements of top players and underperformance have seen Sri Lanka slump to the bottom of the table. They have won just 29% of their matches and as they begin from the first round, under new captain Dasun Shanaka, the team will be under a lot of pressure to bounce back having won the trophy in 2014.
