It wouldn’t be unfair to say, that the success of an ICC tournament truly lies on India’s success. After that it would be the India vs Pakistan match, and then all the other big teams — Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, etc.. And it seems this fact is not only known to the fans, but the ICC as well. Just imagine the T20 World Cup being held in the USA for the first time, and there’s hardly any craze for the USA, or by the people there, for their team.
USA vs Canada – T20 World Cup Opening Match
The T20 World Cup starts on June 2, and the USA and Canada play the inaugural match. And there is no interest for the match. Or so says journalist Peter Della Penna. Taking to social media, he revealed that the pre-match press conference for the USA vs Canada match had only five journalists in all.
While another journalist from Nepal announced on X, that eight journalists from the country were there to cover their team’s practice session alone. Nepal open their T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on June 4.
Grand Prairie Stadium Capacity
As per ESPNCricinfo, the capacity of the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium is only 7000. Now compare that to the newly erected Nassasu Cricket Stadium, that will host Team India matches, and also India vs Pakistan on June 9. That just goes to show that USA can’t pull crowds despite being the host nation.
USA vs Canada Could Face Weather
Dallas, Texas, the venue for the first T20 World Cup match between USA and Canada could be rain-affected. As per various predictions, there are chances of heavy rainfall and even river flooding. That could also dampen the mood for the tournament opener. There’s a 60% chance of rain in Dallas on June 2, the match day.
