Out of form Shivam Dube raises concern for T20 WC as southpaw hits rock bottom in IPL 2nd half

Major concerns for India Cricket Team as Shivam Dube's form hits rock bottom after ICC T20 World Cup squad announcement

Shivam Dube hogged the limelight after starting IPL 2024 on fire. He donned the role of the finisher for Chennai Super Kings. Being used as an impact player, he came out in the middle to win matches for his side. His form earned him a call up in the ICC T20 World Cup squad. However, it has been a contrasting season for him. All the noise about his form has vanished and now, he has hit rock bottom in the second half.

T20 World Cup

Prior to the squad selection, Shivam Dube went hammer and tongs. The destructive southpaw ran amok against the bowlers, bagging an average of 58.3 with a strike rate of 172.4. But things went down after his squad selection. Time and again, he failed to click, as CSK failed to make it to the top 4 of IPL 2024.

Shivam Dube in 1st Half

Shivam Dube was the man for Chennai Super Kings in the opening part of the season. He completely toyed with his opponents with his blitz knocks. While he was not allowed to bowl, he made it up with his explosive batting. Desperate for a spot in the World Cup squad, Dube ran rampage.

And surely, he was repaid in kind. The ace all-rounder got his name included in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup. And that is when things started to take a sharp turn.

Shivam Dube in 2nd Half

After his Team India squad selection, Shivam Dube’s X-Factor fizzled out. It is safe to say he tried his best, but couldn’t perform like the others. With time the opponents understood his Achilles Heel and tasked spinners to counter Dube. The CSK star who blasted the pacers failed to score and gave up his wickets to the slow bowlers.

Shivam Dube’s form a concern?

Interestingly, after the squad announcement, Dube had a mere average of 9.2 and low strike rate of 112.2. Another major concern for Shivam Dube has been his ability to spin bowling. While the southpaw went berserk against the pacers, he was really humbled by the spinners.

Adding more concern will be his lack of form towards the latter stage of IPL. After the squad announcement, Dube’s run scoring abilities have significantly decreased. He no longer was able to hit big scores, neither could he build his strong strike rate.

And with the ICC T20 World Cup just 2 weeks away, it is a major concern for Team India. Dube will be among the first batch of players to depart to USA. Team India can only hope that he regains his form ahead of the big tournament.
