T20 World Cup: Australia is hosting the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in 7 Cities. The event starts on October 16 with group-stage matches. Super 12 matches will start on October 22 and the final will be played on November 13. The Men in Blue begin their campaign on October 23 at the MCG against their bitter rivals Pakistan. India is currently in Brisbane. Men in Blue will take on Australia and New Zealand in official T20 World Cup warm-up games on October 17 and October 19, respectively, at The Gabba. India, the 2007 T20 World Cup champions, is in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage together with Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and two qualifiers.

The Men in Blue begin their campaign on October 23 at the MCG against their bitter rivals Pakistan. Thereafter, they play on October 27 at the SCG against the first qualifier team, on October 30 at Perth Stadium against South Africa, on November 2 at Adelaide Oval against Bangladesh, and on November 6 (against the second qualifier side at MCG).

Australian conditions have always been tricky for any visiting team. So here we look at how Men in Blue have fared out Down Under in T20Is and ODIs over the years.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Team India record in T20Is in Australia

  • Men in Blue played their first T20 match in Australia in 2008.
  • India’s lowest-ever T20 total of 74 led to a nine-wicket loss to Australia in the first T20I between the two nations that was played on Australian soil. For the Men in Blue, it was a dismal day.
  • In total India have played 12 T20 matches Down Under.
  • From those 12 contests, India have won seven matches while losing only four. One match ended with no result.
  • India have a healthy win percentage of  63.63 which is even higher than Australia.
  • Team India’s winning percentage in T20Is in Australia is the highest among the teams who have played four or more matches.

Team India record in ODIs in Australia

  • India played their first ODI match in Australia in 1980. While the last 50-over Down Under for Men in Blue came in 2020.
  • In total, India have played 99 matches in Australia. These numbers are not huge if compared to other visiting teams. As India are on the sixth spot on the all-time list of visitors playing most matches Down Under. West Indies have played most matches (146) by a visiting team.
  • Of those 99 matches, India have won 40 while losing 53 contests. Two matches have tied while four had no result.
  • India have a decent win percentage of 43.15 in Australia in the ODI format.

Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami.

Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur will join Ravi Bishnoi and Shreyas Iyer as backups and will travel to Australia shortly.
