T20 World Cup: Lance Klusener opens up on mentor MS Dhoni: BCCI’s decision to appoint former captain MS Dhoni as team’s mentor for T20 World Cup has been the talking point for some time now. Cricket experts are claiming it as a masterstroke from the Indian cricket board. Afghanistan head coach and former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener too joined the talks around MS Dhoni and hailed the decision by Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI. Klusener claimed that players like MS Dhoni are important for every team in crunch moments. He also talked about Team India new coach.

While talking to The Times of India about Afghanistan’s preparation, Klusener was asked about teams’ decision to bring in former players in the dressing room and how it would help the players. Klusener gave a really good answer saying that these players can chip in with crucial insights that can prove so useful.

He talked about Dhoni in particular and hailed the former Indian captain for his calm nature. “Dhoni is a player who has done it all. A player of his caliber brings a sense of calm to the dressing room atmosphere,” opined Kulsener.

“Afghanistan have brought in Andy Flower as a consultant for the event and teams such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka have roped in former players too. The ex-players such as Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Andy, Stephen Fleming and others could play a role in giving those little insights which can make a huge difference in the crunch moments of a game,” he further added.

Apart from Dhoni’s appointment, BCCI has played another masterstroke as they have got Rahul Dravid ready to take the position of the head coach after Ravi Shastri ends his tenure. Talking about the same, Lance Klusener said that bringing in Rahul Dravid will bring more stability to an already strong Indian side.

Having played alongside Dravid on numerous occasions — his cricketing credentials are second to none. On the coaching front, Dravid has done well with the U-19 Indian teams and recently with the senior side in Sri Lanka.

Team India coach: Klusener reckons Dravid will help youngsters: “He will have good personal knowledge of youngsters knocking on the national team door and having played alongside players such as Virat Kohli — Dravid will be able to assess other players better. If Dravid takes over as the Indian coach, it will only bring more stability to this already strong unit,” explained the South African.
