T20 World Cup: IND vs PAK high-scoring match in the offing as New York pitch conditions revealed

The last time India and Pakistan faced each other at the T20 World Cup in 2022, we saw an intense battle where India managed to chase their 160-run target on the last ball of the match.

The biggest game in all of cricket, India vs Pakistan, is just 25 days away. As we get closer and closer to that date (June 9), the buzz around the clash is intensifying. Fans want to know all about the venue. How will the pitch play for the IND vs PAK game at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium? What are the dimensions of the ground?

IND vs PAK pitch to be batting-friendly?

To prepare the pitches for the T20 World Cup 2024, the ICC brought in the head curator of the Adelaide Oval, Damian Hough, as their expert. Hough has stated that pitches will have pace and bounce in them, and the ball will come nicely on the bat. From his statement, one can assume that India vs Pakistan can be a high-scoring encounter.

“The pitches will have pace and bounce, and the ball should come on to the bat, something that the players prefer. The idea is to produce good pitches that will stay good throughout the tournament and the players will enjoy playing on,” Hough said during an interaction.

Home conditions for India?

During the interaction after the official launching of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, ICC head of events, Chris Tetley, also revealed that the pitch dimensions will be the same as the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“Whenever a new stadium comes up, there are a lot of questions about the size. But the Nassau County ground is not a token-sized ground – it is 75 yards east west and 67 yards north south from the centre. It is similar to the size of Wankhede. The drainage facilities, too, will be world-class,” Tetley said.

For those who are unaware, the pitch at Wankhede is a high-scoring one, and in the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal, India and New Zealand scored nearly 724 runs at a run rate of 7.35. A pitch where mammoth totals can be set will favor the India cricket team, who are a better batting side than Babar Azam’s Pakistan.
