Hardik Pandya: Even though many inside the BCCI walls do not want any changes to the squad at the last moment especially in regards to Hardik Pandya, his form and lack of bowling make him the biggest talking point of the meeting.
- Hardik Pandya hasn’t bowled a single delivery in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 and his batting form has been atrocious.
- In 12 matches, Hardik has scored 127 runs at an average of 14.11.
- Furthermore, Hardik’s fitness has raised a big concern. He has missed two matches and MI camp have put him on a recovery program without revealing the nature of the injury.
- After the Sri Lanka series, he walked straight into the NCA in Bengaluru as fears of a recurrence of his back problems have surfaced.
- Selectors aren’t confident of his fitness and do not want a one-dimensional Hardik Pandya who will just bat as his lack of bowling will lead to an imbalance in the team.
But selectors still want Hardik Pandya. “There is no question of replacing Hardik at this stage. Shardul or Deepak are not ready to take on the role. We have to develop backup in future. But now, it’s not the time, he will not be replaced,” a BCCI source told InsideSport.

Although many have raised questions on why selectors ignored Yuzvendra Chahal for Chahar, some inside BCCI have started raising questions on the young spinner’s selection. Chahal returned to form in Sri Lanka and has been one of the best spinners in Phase 2 with 11 wickets in six matches.
