As per an Indian Express report, the Indian team have given up their four business-class seats to fast bowlers Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya. The seats have additional leg room giving them enough rest and helping them recover between games.
“Before the tournament, we decided that since the pace bowlers clock the maximum mileage on field day in, day out, they need to stretch their legs,” a support staff member of the Indian team told The Indian Express. The Indian team arrived in Adelaide on Monday, a day after their clash against Zimbabwe in Melbourne.
The decision was taken by the management after realizing that the team will be regularly travelling, with a flight in every three-four days during the tournament. The change in time zones also comes into effect, meaning there is always a risk of getting injuries due to excess workload.
As per ICC norms, every team gets four business-class seats. Most teams give these flying privileges to their coach, captain, vice-captain and manager. Meanwhile, the physios and trainers have been monitoring pacers and spinners closely to ensure the toll of travel doesn’t hit them. Players have been given the freedom to not turn up for practice if they feel they need rest and adequate sleep and recovery.

The gesture is not uncommon, with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli both having previously done the same during their time in the IPL. Dhoni gave up his own business-class seat to CSK team director K George John and sat in the economy class while the team was travelling to UAE for IPL 2020. During IPL 2022, Virat Kohli never travelled in business class and would give his seat to the bowlers while on international duty as per Vivek Razdan.
Indian cricket team has reached their next destination – i.e Adelaide on Monday. The Men in Blue will now be up against England in the semi-final on Thursday. Rohit Sharma and Co will be on a day off today. The practice for the pivotal clash will start from Tuesday at 10:30AM. India and England both will both hold training sessions and their pre-match press conferences at Adelaide Oval.
