The India Cricket Team, triumphant in the T20 World Cup 2024, touched down at New Delhi Airport at around 6:10 AM IST today (Thursday). The players, along with their support staff, family members, BCCI officials, and some media personnel, arrived on a chartered Air India flight from Bridgetown, Barbados.
Grand welcome and victory parade
Following their return, the team is set to enjoy a celebratory breakfast hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The festivities won’t end there; the team will then head to Mumbai for a grand victory parade on an open-top bus, reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s 2007 ICC World T20-winning team.
The parade will commence from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point and will conclude at Wankhede Stadium. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the celebration on social media, inviting fans to join the parade and celebrate the team’s victory.
“Join us for the Victory Parade honouring Team India’s World Cup win! Head to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards to celebrate with us!” Jay Shah posted on X.
Short but sweet celebration
Given the players’ exhaustion and mental fatigue from their victorious campaign, the BCCI has planned a short yet grand celebration. The open-top bus parade will cover a distance of 2 kilometres from NCPA to Wankhede Stadium, culminating in a prize distribution ceremony. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will distribute the Rs 125 crore prize money to the team.
Journey back home for India Cricket Team
The Indian squad’s return journey was an adventure in itself. They left Barbados on Wednesday afternoon, and their flight became the most-tracked plane globally on Flightradar24. The aircraft, a long-range Boeing 777-200LR named ‘Avijit’ (unconquered), bore the special call sign AIC24WC — a tribute to India’s World Cup title.
The flight had previously operated Air India’s Delhi-New York route and was rerouted to Bridgetown to bring the team home after their return was delayed by Hurricane Beryl. The special flight landed in Delhi after a nearly 16-hour journey.
Nation Celebrates T20 WC 2024 Trophy
India’s cricketing heroes, led by captain Rohit Sharma, have brought joy to millions of fans with their seven-run victory over South Africa in the final. As the team prepares to celebrate their victory with the nation, their journey from Bridgetown to New Delhi to Mumbai marks a momentous occasion in Indian cricket history.
