TO be fair, the game was in West Zone’s bag at the conclusion of Day 4. At stumps, South Zone were tottering at 154/6. It meant West just needed four wickets when they came in the morning on Day 5.
In fact, South Zone did show some grit in the first hour of play. They did not lose a single wicket. But CT Gaja took the wicket of Sai Kishore as South had just crossed the 200 mark. However, Ravi Teja was also trying to best to stretch the game as much further as possible. He even completed his half0century but fell for 53.
GAME WAS WON ON DAY 4 ITSELF
IN Day 4 morning session on Saturday, Sarfaraz Khan looked in majestic form. Sarfaraz completed his wonderful century too, which included 11 fours and two sixes. When Het Patel also reached his 5o, West decided to declare at 585/4.
SZ vs WZ DAY 4 Highlights: West Zone 4 wickets away from win as South Zone are 154/6 in chase of 529 runs: Follow Duleep Trophy Final LIVEChasing a target of around 500 runs in the fourth innings is never easy. And against West Zone, which comprised of bowlers like Jaydev Unadkat, AA Sheth and others, it was going to be tough. South did not look initially, but lost Mayank Agarwal in the seventh overs. After that, wickets began to fall like nine pins. From 28/0, they were reduced to 91/4, making matters difficult. They had already lost the big wickets of Baba Indrajith and Hanuma Vihari as well. Though Manish Pandey (14) and Ricky Bhui (13) tried to partner Rohan Kunnummal, they failed. The score read 149/5.
Things further worsened as Kunnummal also lost his wicket for 93 runs. It was the last wicket of the day as R Sai Kishore and Ravi Teja saw off around three overs before stumps. They finished at 154/6.
