Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy2024: Teams, Squad, Time, Live Streaming & All you need to know

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 will begin on November 23, with Bihar facing Rajasthan in the opening game.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 is one of India’s premier domestic T20 cricket competitions. Set to begin just ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, the tournament will run from November 23 to December 23.

First held in 2007 as an Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament, the 2024 edition marks the 17th season, featuring 38 teams.

Punjab, led by player-of-the-series Abhishek Sharma, claimed their first title last year. Sharma will continue as captain for the 2024 season.

The 38 teams are split into five groups, with Groups A, B, and C containing eight teams each, and Groups D and E having seven teams each.

When is the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 beginning?

The SMAT tournament will begin from November 23 with Bihar vs Rajasthan opening match at 1:30 PM IST.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 format

Each team will face the other teams in its group in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages.

The five group winners, along with the best second-placed team across all groups (determined by points or Net Run Rate), will secure direct entry into the quarter-finals. The remaining four second-placed teams will compete in the pre-quarter-finals.
