Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: Maharashtra vs Punjab – Ruturaj Gaikwad’s brilliant knock of 80 has helped Maharashtra to register a victory over Punjab in the Elite Group A in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. After the losing the opening round against defending champions Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra bounced back to mark their first win of the SMAT 2021. Punjab bowlers picked up three wickets, each by Sanvir Singh, Abhishek Sharma and Siddharth Kaul.

After having decided to bowl first, Maharashtra managed to restrict Punjab to 137 runs and picked up six wickets. Divyang Himganekar and Ashay Palkar scalped two wickets each, while Mukesh Chaudhary one wicket for Maharashtra. Punjab batsmen struggled against the pace attack of Himganekar and Palkar. Punjab had a slow start to their innings. In the first 10 overs, they scored 47 runs and in the final 10 overs Punjab batsmen added 90 runs to the total. Shubhman Gill returned with 44 runs off 39 balls, while Gurpreet Mann scored 41 runs off 32 balls.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 Live: Maharashtra vs Punjab – While chasing the target of 138, Maharashtra lost an early wicket of Yash Nahar for a duck. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Naushad Shaikh added 75-run partnership for the second wicket. Skipper Ruturaj emerged as star of the day after having scored a brilliant 80 runs off 54 balls to lead Maharashtra a convincing 7-wicket win over Punjab. Punjab bowlers struggled to stop the juggernaut of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

When will Maharashtra and Punjab play their next match?

Maharashtra and Punjab will play their respective second match against Odisha and Goa on November 6th. Both the matches will take place at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra will play Odisha at 12:00 pm, while Punjab will play Goa at 8:30 am.
