Indian cricket team fans can breathe a sigh of relief as star batter Suryakumar Yadav assures he’s nearing full fitness ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Shaky IPL 2024 after injury return
Suryakumar Yadav missed the initial matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) due to injury.
His return wasn’t ideal, with a first-ball duck against Delhi Capitals (DC). However, glimpses of his brilliance returned with a scorching 52 off just 19 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Finding form despite inconsistency
Suryakumar Yadav’s form since then has been a mixed bag. He followed his RCB fifty with another duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before bouncing back with another half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday.
Suryakumar Yadav: Focus on Fitness
Despite the inconsistent scores, Suryakumar Yadav remains upbeat. He acknowledged the “ups and downs” but emphasized his progress in training and fielding. His goal is to be able to play all 40 overs soon.
Suryakumar Yadav also revealed a team strategy discussed before the PBKS match. With Rohit Sharma dismissed early, he took on the responsibility of anchoring the innings until the 15th-17th over. This strategy, combined with the absence of dew in recent matches, led to a strong total for MI.
“That teaches you there are ups and downs in life (on his scores this season). It is going really, I am almost there, I have started fielding and training, hoping I will be on the field for the whole 40 overs. Nothing much (on his celebration), there was a batters meeting and we spoke about a batter batting for 15-16 overs, took a little more time today but once Rohit got out, someone had to bat deep. There hasn’t been dew and if that is the case then it is way above par.”
