Mumbai Indians and their tryst with injuries has been well documented over the last few seasons. And it’s not going away anytime soon. Their star batter Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss first week of IPL 2024 as he continues to recover from an ankle injury he suffered in South Africa. MI coach Mark Boucher said he is still waiting for an update on SKY who is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru undergoing rehab.
“Surya at the moment is on the guidance of the Indian cricket team as well. Just waiting for updates on that. I don’t like to micromanage. We’ve got a world class medical team that’s in control of all of that. Yes, the past, we have had a few fitness issues. We are always going to be in that sort of domain of having fitness issues as other teams are as well,” Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher said while addressing the media in Mumbai on Monday.
When will Suryakumar Yadav return?
SKY joined NCA to undergo rehab last week and may need at least two weeks to be back at full fitness. Considering he is crucial to India’s plans in T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI isn’t rushing his return. Instead SKY will only return after he gets NCA’s clearance, which he is yet to.
Latest on IPL 2024
In Suryakumar Yadav’s absence, Mumbai Indians will have to bank on youngsters. And Mark Boucher is ready for that.
“Every time I look at my WhatsApp’s there’s reports of other teams also losing players. We trust our medical team that they’re doing the right things. Look, if we lose one or two from fitness perspective, it is what it is. That’s important and we just have to keep on the right track and sharp on replacements,” Boucher said.
