Shreyas Iyer Injury: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who is set to make a return in cricket after 5 months, revealed that he surprised himself with the Yo Yo Test result. Speaking in an interview with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of Asia Cup 2023, Iyer revealed that he was in excruciating pain while playing through injury.

“It was horrendous, to be honest at that point in time, and I was in excruciating pain. I was not able to express myself properly,” Iyer recalled.

Iyer described the testing phase as one of the toughest parts of his recovery, with lingering pain making progress uncertain. However, with the support of friends, family, and the medical team, he managed to regain his strength and fitness.

“Testing phase was the toughest period to go through. But over a period of time I realized that the pain is subsiding and my strength is improving in my leg”, he added

Iyer said that he did trial Yo Yo tests at the NCA during his rehabilation and playing practice matches helped him gain his momentum.

“I did some trial yoyo tests and gradually after some time I played a match and then I was gaining that momentum and then yeah, in yoyo test I surprised myself as well”, Iyer revealed.

The 28-year-old revealed that a nerve compression issue along with a slipped disk had impacted his ability to communicate the extent of his suffering to fellow players.

Despite initially attempting alternative treatments, Iyer ultimately underwent surgery to address the issue. He shared that the decision was reached after consulting with medical experts and considering his long-term playing career. The post-surgery phase involved a period of rest and a gradual return to physical activity.
