From one centurion to another. England’s top scorer, Ben Duckett, has heaped praise on young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after the end of the third day’s play in the India vs England 3rd Test. After smashing his second century of the series, the southpaw has ensured that India remains on top in Rajkot.
Having gained a 126-run lead, Jaiswal’s masterful innings (104) propelled India’s lead to 322 with two days still left. With eight wickets in hand and three batters still to come, the Rohit Sharma-led side is in prime position to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
After stumps on Day 3, Ben Duckett lauded the 21-year-old for his splendid display. Duckett, who himself scored nearly half of his side’s runs (153), hailed Jaiswal as the next big thing in cricket after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
‘Yashasvi Jaiswal is a superstar in making, but we deserve some credit in having opposition players batting aggressively” the English opener said.
With Rohit Sharma dismissed and Ravichandran Ashwin unavailable, Jaiswal played with maturity beyond his age. The batter paced his inning beautifully, scoring just 35 runs in his first 73 balls. After he and Gill got set in the middle, Jaiswal went berserk.
In the next 49 balls he faced, he scored 63 runs and brought his ton up in 122 balls. Having already scored a double century in Vizag, the 21-year-old took his run tally to 435 in six innings, having retired hurt towards the end of the third day’s play. Jaiswal can still bat tomorrow and further pile on the pain.
