Chris Paul had two steals and a block on 3 of LAL’s last 4 possessions to help protect PHX’s lead down the stretch here.

Alex Caruso got his 5th PF. He’s back in at the 4:30 mark.

KCP and Matthews are used to getting wide-open looks from 3 when playing with LeBron, but those looks aren’t going to be quite as open in his absence. They went a combined 1 for 9 from the field in the 1st half. LAL was 2 for 12 from 3 overall.

Frank Vogel on the absence of big players

Vogel said Marc Gasol will be out tonight in Phoenix, joining fellow starting frontcourt partners LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the bench. Gasol has been cleared from protocols but has yet to practice.

Vogel said it could be a game or two still as he gets his conditioning.

Frank Vogel on LeBron’s high ankle sprain: “Those things take a while to heal. They are slow recoveries. We’re prepared to be without him indefinitely.“

The Lakers will have lost 36 games to starters including tonight’s game at Phoenix. The two teams ahead of them in the Western standings have lost 10 (Utah) and 8 (Phoenix) games to starters. Vogel: “I’m proud of our guys for competing through difficult circumstances.“
