“Stupid, stupid, stupid,” Gavaskar’s words proven right as Rishabh Pant’s rash shot leaves India stranded

Rishabh Pant’s reckless approach continues to cost India. Despite doing the hard work, his impatience led to dismissals in both innings, leaving India in a vulnerable situation.

India’s star wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant has done it again. Yes, he threw his wickets at a crucial time of India. While, India was going through a crucial time during IND vs AUS 4th Test at Melbourne, Rishbh Pant thors away his wicket in the hands of Australia, boosting their confidence after a bad session. Not the first time he has done it, but his aggressive approach at the crucial time of keeping calm costs India almost the match. “Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!” Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar said on ABC Grandstand’s commentary earlier after his dismissal in the first innings. “That is not playing your natural game, (and) that is a stupid shot.” he added that. Now again, instead of having maturity, Pant is proving the Indian legend right.

Rishabh Pant can’t keep his calm

Rishabh Pant can’t keep his calm. He tried his very hard after India lost three wickets at the score of 33 runs. After playing 100 balls easily, Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away while attempting a big shot off Travis Head. On the 4th delivery of 59th over, Pant misjudged a fractionally short ball, thinking it was suitable for a pull shot. However, he failed to get under the ball properly and mistimed his shot. The ball flew wide of long-on, where Mitchell Marsh ran to his left and completed a well-judged reverse-cupped catch, even as he hit the ground. Pant departed for 30 off 104 balls, leaving Australia with a crucial breakthrough.

Foolishness in the first innings

The first innings was no different story for Pant. In the first inning, Rishabh Pant gifted his wicket to Australia with an ill-advised shot. Scott Boland bowled a full delivery around off. Pant, who had been batting steadily with conventional strokes, attempted a risky lap/scoop shot. He crouched low, but the ball took the top edge and flew to the third man, where Nathan Lyon completed an easy catch without much movement. Pant had done the hard work of surviving the initial tough phase but threw it away after scoring 28 off 37 balls, leaving India in deeper trouble.

You can’t do this Pant

Pant comes in at fifth position, a place where Team India always feels vulnerable. After the poor form and series of performances from the top order, every time, it’s the same old story for India to have dependency on the middle order and the tailenders. The pressure builds on Pant where he has the responsibility to take care of the innings and build it with the youngsters, but no, the guy always throws his wickets easily playing silly shots, costing India a deficit every time.
