Stuck in a loop: Rohit Sharma’s form isn’t the biggest concern, but worried look on his face is

IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma, the star batter, is enduring the worst season of his life, where in 5 matches he has scored 56 runs at an avg of 11.

Are we really witnessing the end of Rohit Sharma the batter? For a player who has scored over 6600 runs in the IPL, let alone his international achievements; to see him play in the IPL 2025 is a real pain, for the fans, and definitely for himself too. On Sunday, Rohit failed to put bat to ball, while trying to go for a sweep, against DC’s little-known spinner Vipraj Nigam, and that was the end of his best-ever innings this season, where he scored 18 from 12.

Rohit Sharma Nowhere Near His Best

Don’t be fooled with the six he got off Mitchell Starc. It was a case of him getting a leading edge, with the ball flying over the keeper’s head for a massive hit over the ropes. And that was the only talking point of his stay at the crease. 56 runs in 5 matches is what he is at, in this IPL. A massive low from what he achieved last year, with 417 runs in 14 games, including a ton and a fifty.

Form is temporary, but class is permanent, but Rohit Sharma just doesn’t seem to be confident enough to be able to show that class now, unfortunately. His somber, long walk to the pavilion was a giveaway for sure. It just shouted, that things are beyond his control. He seems to be caught in a loop, where he can’t decide, whether to go for the shots, or maybe take a safe approach, something that Virat Kohli does really well.

All But Over for India Captain?

And that has been his biggest shortcoming this year. With each failure, the frustration and the disappointment is bound to grow, and have an implication in the future matches too. And if this failure is any indication, even if Rohit goes on to get a couple of scores, neither is MI qualifying for the playoffs, nor are we seeing the best of him in this season.

Not that it’s going to make a difference in MI decision-making, but they need to get Tilak Varma to open the innings, instead of making Rohit a sitting duck against the best bowlers in the world. Perhaps, it would only be better for him to bat in the middle-order, if not be ousted from the team.
