Former England cricketer Stuart Broad has backed his teammate Andrew Flintoff to become the new head coach for the men’s team. The remark comes amid the ongoing review of England’s performances in the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup by Rob Key. Reports have emerged that team director Matthew Mott and skipper Jos Buttler’s roles are under scrutiny.
Broad wants Flintoff as new England coach
Broad claimed that the players who have worked with Flintoff as coach have loved the former cricketer’s style and approach. He credited Flintoff’s role in The Hundred as a coach as the start of his journey to moving on to coach international teams in the future.
“The players I’ve spoken to, when Freddie [Flintoff] has been involved in the coaching staff, have loved him,” said Broad.
“His role as a coach for The Hundred franchises seems like a step toward building him into a future international coach. Having someone like Freddie Flintoff involved in the game can only inspire the next generation,” he added.
Reports of Eoin Morgan set to replace Mott also emerged earlier. However, the ex-England skipper categorically denied taking up the job, adding that while he wanted to coach in the future, it wasn’t his immediate priority.
