The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will witness a clash between two underperforming teams from the IPL 2024 table – the Gujarat Titans and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Both sides come into this match desperate for a win to revive their playoff hopes.
Shubman Gill: Captaincy woes and run droughts
Shubman Gill, leading the Gujarat Titans for the first time in his career, has endured a forgettable season thus far. Following a prolific run of nearly 900 runs in IPL 2023, Gill has managed only 320 runs in 10 matches this season, with just two fifties to his name. Notably, his exclusion from India’s T20 World Cup squad might be attributed to this dip in form.
Although he is not part of squad but Shubman Gill will still fly to Americas as part of India squad’ reserves. And he will be eager to hit form in IPL 2024, to get that boost when called into the squad.
A return to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where he smashed a century in IPL 2023, could spark a turnaround for Gill. The Bengaluru pitch might hold the key to unlocking his batting prowess once again.
Glenn Maxwell misfiring: Middle-Order Mayhem
Another big name struggling this season is Glenn Maxwell. RCB’s batting mainstay in recent years, Maxwell has been a pale shadow of himself, scoring a meagre 32 runs in last six outings, with only one knock exceeding double digits.
Dropped from the playing XI earlier in the tournament, Glenn Maxwell returned against GT last week but couldn’t get a chance to bat. However, he did manage to dismiss the opposition captain, Gill. With Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks finding form for RCB, Maxwell might find himself playing with more freedom in a less pressure-filled middle order.
