Story behind India ‘best fielder’ medal which has become a hit on social media

T Dilip, the fielding coach for the Indian team, has been coming up with inventive ways to announce the winner following each game

During the current ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the Indian team management’s idea to hold a “dressing room medal ceremony” has quickly gained popularity on social media. The best fielder medal is now the most sought out medal in the Indian dressing room and also among fans.

According to The Indian Express, the notion was developed after the team’s fielding wasn’t up to par during a recent Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and a few games in the West Indies.

The management of the team therefore devised this activity to recognize the game’s top fielder. Earlier, there was no medal ceremony; instead, team coaches would just praise the players after each game.

The team management made the decision to introduce this exercise for the World Cup in order to make it competitive within its group. In addition to garnering a lot of fan interaction, it has also become quite well-liked in the locker room. Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer have already been seen waving medals around their necks as they celebrate catches.

“The team management felt that an exercise where the best fielder should receive a medal should take place in order to keep the environment more competitive among the players after Australia’s three ODI series,” a BCCI official said. Previously, the team coaches would verbally commend the player of the day’s play.

It is a fresh idea that undoubtedly caught people’s attention. T Dilip, the fielding coach for the Indian team, has been coming up with inventive ways to proclaim the winner following each game in order to add more color to the medal presentation.

The winner, Jadeja for his catch at point, was announced earlier during the India vs Bangladesh game in Pune on the stadium’s big screen.

On Sunday in Dharamsala, India missed three catches against New Zealand. Despite missing some easy chances, the men in blue made several outstanding plays with their ground fielding, particularly when Shreyas Iyer caught Devon Conway in the fourth over of the innings to put the Blackcaps in trouble right away.

And the winner of the best fielder medal that was Shreyas Iyer was announced via spider camera gig.
