The great man was once again doing what he loves to do! Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s talisman Virat Kohli came up with the maiden century in IPL 2024 as he hammered a fantastic 113* off 72 against the Rajasthan Royals in Match 19 on Saturday.
Kohli, who was put up to bat first, anchored the RCB innings magnificently. Despite the surface not being as friendly for batters, Kohli toiled hard and gave an authoritative performance against a top-quality bowling attack of RR, that included the likes of Trent Boult, Nandre Burger, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin.
While his skipper Faf du Plessis struggled for timing on one end, Kohli made sure to keep the run-scoring going. He found gaps at will and ran hard. The modern-day master notched up his eighth IPL hundred in 67 balls, thus propelling his side’s total to 183/3.
His magnificent innings was not only a sight to behold for the spectators at the venue but also set the social media ablaze. Countless fans took to their X (formerly Twitter) accounts to acknowledge the greatness of Kohli.
While Kohli’s knock was what RCB needed on a two-packed track in Jaipur, it also earned him an unwanted record. Kohli’s recent three-digit score has now become the joint-slowest hundred in IPL history. He has joined Manish Pandey on the list, as both Indians now have a 67-ball hundred in their IPL careers.
