Steve Smith injured? Star batter hit on fingers during net session ahead of IND vs AUS Test

IND vs AUS: Steve Smith has been battling for form in 2024, and was even out for a duck in the first innings of the first Test at Perth.

Nothing seems to be going right for the Aussies in this IND vs AUS series, as first pacer Josh Hazlewood was sidelined from the 2nd Test due to a side strain, and now batter Steve Smith took a blow on his fingers during a nets session on Tuesday. The incident occurred when fellow batter Marnus Labuschange started giving throwdowns to Smith.

Steve Smith Injured?

As per a tweet by Vimal Kumar, Steve Smith was soon attended by a physio, and left the nets thereafter. The Aussie side struggled in the first IND vs AUS Test at Perth, where all their batters collectively failed, especially Steve Smith, who only returned with 17 runs in the match.

2024 has been one of the worst years for the legendary Smith, who in 6 matches, has only managed to score 230 runs at an average of 25. He has a highest score of 91, and apart from that has nothing much to show. For now, the extent of his injury is not known, and things would only be clear closer to the second Test in Adelaide.

On the other hand, Team India also have a few problems up their sleeve. With the return of Rohit Sharma, the management needs to take a call, as to who would open with Yashasvi Jaiswal — KL Rahul or the skipper. Apart from that, a call on R Ashwin vs Washington Sundar also needs to be taken for the pink ball Test, that is scheduled to begin on December 6.
