The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set their sights on Stephen Fleming, the Chennai Super Kings’ legendary head coach, as a potential successor to Rahul Dravid. The BCCI officially initiated its search for a new head coach on Monday (May 14), with the position expected to be filled after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Stephen Fleming – The frontrunner for India head coach
According to reports by Indian Express, Fleming’s impressive track record with CSK makes him a strong candidate to take the reins from Dravid. However, a potential roadblock emerges in the form of the BCCI’s demand for a coach across all formats, requiring a ten-month annual commitment.
Fleming’s successful tenure with CSK comes as no surprise to the BCCI. He was a shrewd captain during his playing days for New Zealand. His coaching stint in the IPL exemplifies his immense value as well. As the league’s longest-serving coach, he has steered CSK to five IPL titles and two Champions League trophies.
