India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson top the list of nominees for ICC Player of the Month. The two batters have had an explosive run with the bat in the respective series. Opener Jaiswal is the leading run-getter for the side in the ongoing IND vs ENG series. Williamson, on the other hand, carries on like a well-oiled machine.
Yashasvi Jaiswal shines in IND vs ENG
Yashasvi Jaiswal has stunned the universe with his back to back double hundreds. His meteoric rise has led him to become the top run scorer in the current WTC cycle. Jaiswal ended February with astounding numbers in the three Tests he featured in — 560 runs at an average of 112 including 20 sixes.
The ‘evergreen’ Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson, one among the Fab 4, is busy proving his mettle silently. He became the fastest batter to reach 32 centuries as he displayed his prowess in NZ vs SA series. In the 1st Test, he slammed back to back centuries in two innings.
In the 2nd Test, he played a fighting 133-run 4th innings knock. Williamson’s knock saw the Kiwis through their first-ever Test series win against South Africa.
Nissanka, a silent hero rises
Pathum Nissanka became the first Sri Lankan batter to score a ODI double century. The 25-year-old blasted 210* off just 139 balls against Afghanistan in Pallekele.
He went on to end the series with another terrific hundred (118 off 101 balls). Nissanka beat Sanath Jayasuriya’s 24-year-old record for the highest score by a Sri Lankan in ODIs.
