However, many Twitter users came out and defended the Channel, stating that it could be part of promotional activity.

Earlier, Star Sports got embroiled in a controversy when comedian Munawar Faruqui was featured in their coverage of the game between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on May 12. Notably, Faruqi was arrested in 2021 for making remarks on Hindu deities during a show and hurting religious sentiments.

The comedian was charged with section 295-A which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class. The complaint was filed by Eklavya Singh Gaud, son of BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaud.

While the Madhya Pradesh High Court had denied granting Faruqi bail, the Supreme Court on February 5, 2021, released the comedian on interim bail.
