Sri Lanka spinner charged for breaching ICC’s Anti-Corruption code, failed to report approaches from LPL

Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged by the ICC for breaching the anti-corruption code. The decision comes after the spinner failed to report approaches to do match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) to the Anti-Corruption Unit. He has been charged with three counts of breaching the code.

As per reports, Jayawickrama allegedly deleted messages related to the corrupt approach. He has been given two weeks time to respond to the charges leveled against him. The ICC charged him of the offence under Article 2.4.4 and Article 2.4.7.

Following Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code, Sri Lanka Cricket and the ICC have agreed that the ICC will take action concerning the Lanka Premier League charge alongside the International Match charges,” the ICC said in a statement.
