Sri Lanka Next Coach: CAC identities U19 World Cup winning coach Naveed Nawaz- Sri Lanka’s Cricket Advisory Committee has shortlisted former international Naveed Nawaz as their first choice for the national coach role. As per reports, the CAC have sent out a list of several candidates to the Sri lanka Cricket Board, who will now get to negotiating a contract. Currently, Rumesh Ratnanayake is at the helm on an interim basis affter Mickey Arthur’s resignation.

As per reports, former Sri Lankan cricketer Naveed Nawaz is Cricket Advisory Committee’s (CAC) first choice as national coach, it is learnt. According to the highly placed sources in SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket), the CAC has sent a list of several candidates for various coaching assignments.
“We submitted the list about a month ago and Naveed Nawaz is our first choice to be the coach of the national men’s team. We interviewed 23 candidates and the total 12-hour long interview process also included foreigners” – one of the CAC members, speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo told Cric-Intra.
Nawaz’s name was sent out after two foreigners backed out with Paul Fabrace and Graham Ford distancing tghemselves from the role. Sri Lanka wee interested in bringing in Justin langer, but that path is still unclear. Furhermore, the list was sent out a month earlier and there is no indication on why no coach has been appointed so far.
“It was a decision of majority members and his final name was then suggested unanimously. The CAC didn’t discuss the remuneration part. That is for the SLC to negotiate with the individuals” – the CAC member added.
Nawaz played one Test and 3 One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka. He has since coached the U-19 and Womens team of Sri Lanka, before taking on the u-19 job for Bangladesh in 2016. Under his coaching, Bangaldesh defeated India in the final in 2020 for their first major ICC event win.
