Sri Lanka incurred a $51 billion foreign debt in April and has been in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In a way to preserve and conserve food stocks from getting depleted the Sri Lankan government imposed a two-week shutdown of all schools and state institutions. This also helps reduce people commuting from one place to another and helps save extra expenses. The fuel stations where the essential commodities could be found are stationed with armed police as a means of security.
“Please, look after each other in the fuel queues. Bring adequate fluid and food and if you’re not well please, reach out to the closest person next to you and ask for support or call 1990. We need to look after each other during these difficult times,” the cricketer urged.
