Sunrisers Hyderabad look like a pale shadow of their 2024 selves as they are stuck at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. Much of SRH’s failures have been directed at their batting, with their explosive top order failing to make sizeable contributions. However, their bowling has also largely struggled, with captain Pat Cummins also enduring a hard time with the ball in hand.
Punjab Kings posted a mammoth 245/6 facing SRH, with Cummins going wicketless once again in a shoddy display by the hosts. To make things worse, he conceded 40 runs at an economy rate of 10.00. In this IPL, Cummins has gone for 10.93.
Pat Cummins’ struggles in IPL 2025
Pat Cummins has had a slow start to IPL 2025, struggling to make regular inroads with the ball in hand. In the 6 games played so far, Cummins has gone wicketless in 3, failing to aid his team’s cause. In the opening game at Hyderabad, Cummins conceded 0/60 in his four overs. He followed it up with a good show against LSG in Hyderabad but went for 27 in his two overs against Delhi in Vizag. He was effective against the Gujarat Titans in his last game but couldn’t get his team over the line.
On Saturday, Cummins conceded 40 in his four overs, taking particular punishment from his opposite number Shreyas Iyer. In 6 games this year, Cummins only has 4 wickets to his name, with an average of 56.50 and a strike-rate of 31.00. His economy rate is nearly 11, a cause of concern for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers had paid 20.5 crores in IPL 2024 to get the Australian captain, and he made an instant impact, leading them to the final. Cummins was instrumental as a leader but also contributed effectively with a ball in hand, picking 18 wickets in 16 games. While he conceded at 9.28, he played most of his games at Hyderabad, where scores in 200 were normal practice. If SRH have to turn their campaign around, they will need captain Cummins to fire in all cylinders and lead from the front with ball in hand.
