Sunrisers skipper Kane Williamson handed the ball to left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith to bowl the first over. Suchith dragged the first ball onto the pads which Kohli tried to flick, but instead ended up giving a simple catch to Williamson to short mid-wicket. Quite understandably, the 33-year-old looked very disappointed with himself after the dismissal.

Notably, this was Kohli’s third duck this season, which speaks volumes about the kind of campaign he is having. The run-machine has not lived up to the expectation at all, having scored only 216 runs at an average of under 20 and a strike rate of only 111.

Prior to this knock, Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck against Lucknow Super Giants this season, where Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera scalped his wicket. Following that, he was also dismissed for a golden duck in the previous meeting against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where South African speedster Marco Jansen sent him back to the pavilion.
Overall, this was Kohli’s sixth golden duck in IPL. He had been dismissed for golden ducks on only three occasions between 2008 to 2021, but in what has come down as a real surprise, the tally has been doubled in only one season.
