Gujarat Titans stormed to their third successive win of IPL 2025 after outplaying Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in Hyderabad on Sunday. The GT win was headlined by Mohammed Siraj’s career-best 4 for 17, a sublime half-century by skipper Shubman Gill and a polished 49 by Washington Sundar. The win helped Gujarat jump to the second spot on the IPL Points Table with six points and a net run rate of 1.031.
GT had lost their opening game to Punjab Kings but they have been clinical since, winning consecutive games against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and SRH.
Easy chase
Siraj was the common factor in GT’s wins over RCB and SRH. On Sunday, he dismantled their top-order with the wickets of Travishek and became the 12th Indian pacer to take 100 wickets in the IPL before coming back to add two more – the pace ace conceded only 3 boundaries in a sensational spell which dictated terms to a strong batting line-up.
In response to a middling chase of 153, GT lost Sai Sudharsan to Mohammed Shami for 5 before Pat Cummins got rid of Jos Buttler for a duck. However, Gill scored his first half-century of the season. Playing his maiden game for the Titans, Sundar scored 49 off 29 to put the side firmly on the path to victory.
The pair added 90 in a little less than 10 overs and then Sundar fell to Shami, one short of a well-deserved half-century.
Sherfane Rutherford’s arrival at the wicket meant the victory was only a matter of time – his cameo pushed SRH further to the brink and the Titans romped home with plenty to spare.
Siraj magic
Mohammed Siraj continued from where he left off against RCB and destroyed SRH with his career-best IPL figures of 4 for 17. Siraj was outstanding in the Powerplay, dismissing Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma cheaply.
SRH, on a pitch which nullified their powerful batting line-up, were clueless against Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who sent back Ishan Kishan. Krishna struck again to remove Kamindu Mendis as GT maintained a stranglehold on the hosts.
Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored with 31 but those runs came at a strike-rate of 91.17 while Heinrich Klaasen looked like the best SRH top-order batter during a 19-ball 27. Both these men fell to the guile of Sai Kishore who continued his dream run this season.
Pat Cummins walked in and scored some quick runs and even as Ishant Sharma leaked 53 off his 4 overs, SRH were restricted to 152 for 8. Rashid Khan was more economical Sunday night but he was wicketless.
