SRH to take big hit before IPL 2025 mega auction with 5 retention worth Rs 75 crore

With 5 world-class players already in, SRH would need to build around their rest of the team around their retained players.

So, a bittersweet news is heading towards the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fans. The 2016 IPL champions, who fell short in last season’s final, are set to splash out as much as Rs 75 crore to retain five players. It was reported earlier that the Orange Army would offer Heinrich Klaasen a record Rs 23 crore, skipper Pat Cummins Rs 18 crore, and Abhishek Sharma Rs 14 crore. However, ESPNcricinfo has confirmed SRH’s remaining two retentions as well.

Klaasen the costliest, Nitish Reddy at just Rs 6 crore for SRH

According to reports, the Hyderabad franchise has retained Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy. While Head will get a Rs 14 crore pay cheque, Nitish will be retained at just Rs 6 crore. Retaining Nitish, who is even in the Indian squad for the BGT, at just Rs 6 crore could be a steal deal for SRH.

If the development is right, it will be a huge boost for Klaasen, who otherwise got Rs 18 crore (the minimum cap set by BCCI for 1st retention picks). As for Cummins, who led the team to the IPL 2024, he is probable to get a pay cut. He was roped in for a massive Rs 20.50 crore at the IPL 2024 auction but is likely to be retained at Rs 18 crore. Moreover, Indian sensation Abhishek Sharma will be retained for as much as Rs 14 crore.

Head-Abhishek to power SRH again!

The Sunrisers will have their left-handed opening pair, who together amassed 599 runs in 13 innings at a scorching strike rate of 13.21 runs per over, will continue. Moreover, both Head and Abhishek will get an equal pay at Rs 14 crore. The Australian himself scored 567 runs in 15 games at an incredible strike rate of 191.5. Last year, he kept his average at a solid 40.50.

At a cost of INR 6 crore, Nitish has made the decision to remain in Hyderabad. According to BCCI criteria, Nitish would have been eligible for a fee of just Rs 4 crore if he had not received his India debut. However, Nitish (21) has been making waves since making his debut for India earlier this month. Sunrisers have fulfilled the allotted limit of five capped retentions in accordance with BCCI regulations. In order to assemble the team for the upcoming three seasons, the team will now have INR 45 crore, and they will have one RTM to purchase an uncapped player.
